CHILDREN OF GOD

The following little prayer is from the African tradition; from the country we now call Guinea. “Father, O mighty force, that force which is within everything, come down between us, fill us until we become like you, until we become like you.” I love that prayer. It describes the truth of what life is all about.

“Come down and fill us until we become like you.” The truth of who you are is an immense and deep reality. I would really like to look at how we can practically work with this continuing learning in our daily lives.

I really do believe when we can love and embrace and understand the truth about ourselves in its fullness, and when we do, that all of our other problems and difficulties disappear. I know we come close to these truths in prayer and meditation. In the quiet, in practicing the presence of God, we become more aware of the truth about ourselves. We become aware that we are not our bodies, not our minds, not our feelings, not our emotions. We become aware that we are not what we do, or any other external value we might put on ourselves.

We are children of God; we are made from love and we are made to love.
